Creative Process for Drawing a Building Elevation

living in New York has been very inspiring for my art work, specially being an architect and artist. whenever i go out i found some intersting building or object that drives me to paint it or draw it, as you can find some exemples on my instagram. thereby, i'd like to share with you my recently creative process for drawing a building facade.

all starts from keeping the eyes wide open for everything that sparks my imagination, and having the architectural backgorund, i tend to look for buildings. if i don't have my sketchbook with me, i take a picture of the building facade.

then, i decide wich material i'll use to make the art, that it may varies from ink, pencil, watercolor, oil pastel, or whatever i have in hands. in this case, i used van gogh and winsor & newton watercolors. before painting, i usually make a quick skecth to separate the different kinds of colors and areas that i'll use.

after, i try to get close to the original building color for a reference, not a rule, and the same applies for the details. here's a good advise for who is working with watercolor and guache: make some tests before painting on the paper!

to finalize the painting, i drew some details in ink, and here's my version of that building in williamsburg, brooklyn.

i hope you have enjoyed it, and if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let me know in the comments below!
