5 Art Movies You Must Watch

Have you ever felt unproductive during quarantine and needing an extra dose of inspiration? I certainly did, and I still feel it from time to time. It’s normal and totally ok to feel whatever emotion is showing up for you. If being productive is something out of your reach today, there are 5 art movies that can inspire you when you’re not in the “creation mood”. Prepare some popcorn - or your favorite snack - and get ready to watch them!

KUSAMA: INFINITY

Kusama: Infinity - The life and art of Yayoi Kusama (2018) is a documentary directed, written and produced by Heather Lenz about the art career and life of Japanese contemporary artist, Yayoi Kusama, and her trajectory in the arts in Japan, New York City, and around the world. Nowadays, Kusama is considered the highest-paid living female artist. But, things were not always like this for her, and thankfully she didn’t give up on her practice as you can watch it here.

Gauguin - Voyage to Tahiti (2017) was directed by Edouard Deluc and is about the adventurous life of post-Impressionist French artist, Paul Gauguin, during in the years that he lived in Tahiti. It also shows how Tahiti’s landscape, people, and love affair influenced his most well-known paintings. If you’re curious and don’t wanna miss Gauguin’s exotic experience, watch it here!

FRIDA

Frida (2002), directed by Julie Taymor, is a biography movie about (one of my favorite) Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, covering all the drama about her life. Which includes and is not limited to the accident she had as a teenager, her artistic career, marriage with Mexican artist Diego Rivera, and so on. Do I need to say more? If you didn’t watch it yet, this is your chance!

LOVING VINCENT

Loving Vincent (2017), directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, it’s a beautiful oil painted animation about Dutch post-Impressionist painter, Vincent van Gogh, and his life in Auvers, where he lived his last days. Make sure to watch it!

Hope you enjoyed the recommendations above and they may bring you some inspiration. Have you already watched one of these movies? Let me know in the comments below what are thoughts, and if you have more art movies to suggest I would love to know.

Take care!
