Inside Matisse's Studio and Process
the boston museum of fine arts - mfa is currently exhibitionning the artwork and some personal objects of henri matisse (1869-1954), and as a big fan of the french painter, i went to check the show.
matisse used to collect some objects, like vases, masks, rugs, furniture, and others, especially from north africa and middle east. the artist brought them into his artwork, through various compostions.
vase (spain, early 20th century)
safrano roses at the window (oil on canvas, 1925)
vase of flowers (oil on canvas, 1924)
venetian chair (19th century)
venetian chair with fruit (oil on canvas, 1942)
interior with egyptian curtain (oil on canvas, 1948)
tent curtain (egyp, 19th-early 20th centuries)
for me, the experience was like walking through matisse's studio, creativity and behind the scenes. the combination of his objects, with its studies, and final works was like diving in the artist creative process.
